On June 27th 2010, I conquered Ironman and Kuato together with a time of 14:31:16.
Frankly, the race was fairly tranquil compared to my training. It was actually easier both mentally and physically.

While training, there is no one cheering you on, especially on the 120 mile training rides. The Marathon was the easiest one I have ever done (done 2 before)-because nothing will ever compare to the 112 mile bike. Although I walked probably 10 miles of the marathon, it was cake. The key is hydration and nutrition. I saw what looked like pros being taken away by EMS due to dehydration and not able to remember their names. The swim was cake too. I waited till every one went, and started about 1 minute after the gun went off. Far right side of the beach, and swam probably 15 yards off the buoys. Yes, probably swam a little longer, but why get involved in the feeding frenzy?

2 observations during the race.
VOLUNTEERS!
1. DO NOT EVER WEAR RED OUT ON THE WATER PLEASE! Swim course turn buoys are red peeps, duh!
2. Catch people at the end!
3. There was no ribbon at the end! What’s with that! Every year volunteers reach down and pickup the ribbon for every IM to cross against symbolizing their accomplishment.

I will post a POV HERO cam video soon of the last mile and finish line.
You can see a pre-race post for the institution I represented here.

Whoa HO ho I am sore. Felt stable on the swim, weak on the bike, and a dead man in the desert on the run. I walked like 8 miles of the run. Won 8th to last place. Ahead of two 50 something females, and 3 hours ahead of the last gal. A serious two thumbs up to her for finishing 11 hrs! Training..Bike Bike Bike Bike /rinse REPEAT!
They have chosen the worst photographer for this year, oh well, here is a pic, and no, that is not a Mullet I am wearing from 1987. It is a bandanna I wore to guard my neck from the sun. Kept it drenched too with ice water at stops to keep core body temp down.

Now this run was funner than heck. Time was about 5:47(first marathon was 5:07). The time seeen in the foto was gun time for the pros start, then they let the average Joes go in Corrals 2 minutes apart. They had mile markers the whole way. It did not feel like a race. It felt like a bunch of crazies yelling “wahoooo” while taking over the freeway tunnels of Seattle. Took it easy after mile 15 and started walking every other mile at mile 18 since I am doing a half iron in mid July.

Fotos in the gallery.
you can see my video finish on the rnr site also.

Heading tomorrow morning to Seattle to run the infamous Rock and Roll series. Going to take it easy though and plan a time perhaps of 5:30, 5:45.
..and I admit, Thriller was my favorite album back in 1983, ya even more than Iron Maiden’s Piece of Mind.
